ON THE HORIZON

Distance will be the latest release from Bear Grass.

Written in the quiet winters of 2021–2022, the six-song album explores what it means to have distance from the things that once defined you, and the courage it takes to believe in who you’re becoming.

Blending piano-rooted folk with electronic textures crafted alongside collaborator Ryan Stewart, Distance is a tender, atmospheric collection about identity, memory, and transformation. Mixed by Ben Roth and mastered by Nich Wilbur, it’s Bear Grass at its most personal, and most fearless.

A LOOK AT THE PAST

‘19 papers

At the end of 2019 the band got together with Rick Spataro and recorded some songs we had been working on. Babies were on the way so we wanted to capture a time and a place before taking a little hiatus for the dads.

We weren’t sure what the band would look like after some time away so we figured this would be a bit of an archival experience. We didn’t realize just how much everything would change.

papers’ is a time and a place, an archive of people we used to be.

LEFT

Having left her childhood home at age 17 to relocate to the right coast, Hammon has spent her adult life away from the people and places for which she holds great love and nostalgia. LEFT plays with the emotions of creating home while holding onto the past, recognizing that the people and places which once existed move along with time. Time and place have a great hold on our memories and expectations, our accomplishments, and acceptance of loss.
